Residents, businesses and community organisations across Lewes District are being invited to comment on Lewes District Council’s revised Statement of Community Involvement (SCI), which sets out how the Council will engage with local communities on planning matters.
The six-week consultation opened on 25 June 2026 and will run until 5:00pm on 6 August 2026, giving interested parties the opportunity to review the proposed document and submit their views. The revised SCI has been updated to reflect changes in national planning policy and guidance, as well as recent consultation experience, with the aim of making community engagement more accessible, efficient and effective.
What is the Statement of Community Involvement?
The Statement of Community Involvement explains how Lewes District Council will consult with residents, businesses, developers and other stakeholders during the preparation of planning policy documents and when determining planning applications.
The revised document includes sections covering:
- An overview of the Local Planning Authority
- Community involvement in plan-making
- Community involvement in neighbourhood planning
- Community involvement in development management
The Council is encouraging everyone with an interest in the future development of Lewes District to review the document and provide feedback before the consultation closes.
How to Take Part
Comments can be submitted online through the Council’s consultation portal, or alternatively by email or post. When making representations, respondents should clearly identify the section of the document they are commenting on.
The consultation closes at 5:00pm on Thursday 6 August 2026. Please note that all representations will be published by the Council and anonymous submissions cannot be accepted.
