Canterbury City Council has confirmed that the local plan timetable has been extended by 6-7 months so that government changes to national planning policy could be considered. The deadline for the final draft Local Plan has now moved from June 2025 to Spring 2026 and therefore the final draft local plan that was expected to be published in Spring 2025 has been delayed.
The Council is taking this opportunity to consider whether there are any more potential brownfield sites that are suitable and available for development in the District and has therefore launched a new Call for Sites that will run from 21 October 2024 until 5pm on 1 December 2024. These should be new sites that have not previously been submitted to the Council for consideration. The Council is particularly interested in:
- Brownfield land that could be suitable and available for development for any future use (capable of accommodating a minimum of five dwellings or 500sqm floorspace)
- Small and medium-sized sites (capable of accommodating a minimum of five dwellings up to around 100 dwellings)
- Land that could be suitable for employment and commercial development (above 0.25ha or 500sqm floorspace)
- Land that could be suitable for Gypsy and Traveller accommodation
- Land that could be suitable for renewable energy schemes
If you wish to promote your site, Bloomfields would be happy to assist with this to ensure you meet the necessary standards for submission, whilst promoting your site in a comprehensive way.
