Maidstone Borough Council has commenced a Call for Sites exercise as part of the preparation of its new Local Plan, which will guide growth and development across the borough from 2029 to 2045.
The Call for Sites represents an important early stage in the plan-making process, enabling the Council to identify land that may have potential for future allocation. The exercise is open to landowners, developers, agents, community organisations and other interested parties with land interests in the borough.
The Council is seeking submissions for a range of potential uses, including:
- Residential development, including Gypsy and Traveller and Travelling Showpeople accommodation
- Employment and commercial development
- Community and leisure facilities
- Open space, green infrastructure and nature conservation
- Renewable energy projects
- Infrastructure and other land uses
The submission period opened on 15 June 2026 and will close at midnight on 23 August 2026.
While the Council strongly recommends using its online submission portal, all submissions must include a site location plan clearly identifying the site boundary. Supporting information can also be provided to assist the assessment process.
It is important to note that the submission of a site does not indicate support for development by the Council, nor does it guarantee allocation within the Local Plan or the granting of planning permission. All submitted sites will be subject to detailed assessment, including consideration of site suitability, availability, deliverability, sustainability and consultation responses from statutory bodies.
The outcomes of the Call for Sites exercise will contribute to the Council’s Strategic Land Availability Assessment (SLAA) and help inform future stages of the Local Plan process.
