John joined Bloomfields in 2021, bringing with him 20 years of experience working in Local Authorities in East Sussex.  John started his career at Rother District Council, progressing from a Trainee Planning Officer up to Senior level, before moving across to Wealden District Council as Assistant Team Leader for the northern part of the District.  John has completed a degree in Geography as well as an RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning.  John has worked on a wide range of planning applications and various development types, and has sound practical understanding of procedural and policy requirements of Councils.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Arts Design in Geography from Portsmouth University.
  • Master’s Degree in Town Planning from London South Bank University.

UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT

During his time working for Local Planning Authorities, John has acquired experience in a variety of planning matters including the determining of residential applications ranging from small to large scale housing sites, commercial planning applications, certificates of lawfulness and prior approval notifications.  John was also responsible for assisting with the management of a team of Local Authority Planning Officers to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service, which also included presenting applications to the Planning Committee.

Working in the private sector, John has prepared and submitted applications on behalf of a wide range of clients for various development proposals, including residential development, rural redevelopments and lawful development certificates.  Given his experience, John enjoys positive working relationships with all the surrounding Local Planning Authorities.

PERSONAL

John enjoys a variety of sports, and was once a keen footballer, with his exercise of choice now turning to running and paddle boarding in the warmer months.  John enjoys spending time with family and socialising with friends.
