Eastbourne Borough Council’s Cabinet members have agreed to issue a consultation to residents on the amount of development that could be provided in Eastbourne and where it could be built. This local consultation will form part of the Council’s preparations for its new Local Plan.
The Government has stated that it believes 738 new homes should be built in Eastbourne every year and to facilitate this the Local Plan aims to provide a clear strategy for future growth, guiding decisions on the locations, amount and type of development that is needed, such as new homes, health and education provision, transport links and sites that will create employment opportunities. Eastbourne Council continues, however, to reiterate its concerns in delivering these government target housing numbers, as given the Borough’s development barriers such as the English Channel, the South Downs National Park and the Pevensey Levels, 738 new homes per annum cannot be accommodated.
The consultation is taking place between 11th November 2022 and January 20th 2023. Please contact Bloomfield’s Sussex office (01435 873999) if you would like us to make representations on your behalf.
