Wealden District Council have confirmed that they have been working to progress their new Local Plan. They have updated Local Plan evidence bases (many of which are now published) and have also progressed many key topic areas of their plan.
The Local Plan is an important document for Wealden DC and they set out from the very start that they wish to progress its production and consultation as quickly as they can. In accordance with their Local Development Scheme (LDS), they were due to consult on a Draft Local Plan in spring 2022. However, they have stated that there is “currently too much uncertainty in relation to plan-making to go out to consultation on a Draft Local Plan at this current time”. This includes matters around their housing requirement and their continued lobbying to central Government on housing numbers. In addition, the National Planning Policy ‘prospectus’, is due to be published in the near future, and this will set out the direction for changes to national policy. Wealden DC consider it really important to understand these matters ahead of any consultation as these will directly affect their Local Plan Strategy and the content of their Plan.
Given the above, Wealden have announced that the Draft Local Plan Regulation 18 consultation will be reviewed. Once Wealden DC have considered the nature of planning reform, they will set out an updated timetable via an updated LDS.
