Bloomfields are pleased to have secured planning permission for the change of use of a large mixed-use commercial site in Staplehurst to a B8 storage and distribution use, with the intention to utilise the buildings under a self-storage model. The opportunity was also undertaken as part of this application to retain existing storage containers and reclad some of the buildings to provide a more uniform appearance to the site.
The site originally consisted of varying commercial uses, including dog kennels and cattery, retail shop, vets and some existing storage uses. However, following changes in licencing and a downturn in retail following Covid, the site was no longer viable, with large areas vacant and unused.
The client was keen to build on the existing commercial storage offered on site, which was proving popular, and change the use of the less successful parts of the site to storage also. Bloomfields are pleased to have helped facilitate this commercial aspiration and were able to deliver all the planning and drawing requirements for the planning application.
A big thank you to #Invvu Construction Consultants who undertook the surveying of a very large and complex site.
We’re excited to see this scheme come to fruition. In the meantime, if you’d like to find out more, please contact Danielle Dunn.
