“You may have managed to turn our ugly duckling into a swan!” is how our client described the design for this barn conversion.
After previously achieving prior approval to convert a barn to a dwellinghouse under permitted development, Bloomfields were asked to re-image the barn as a 4 bed family home. Removing two bays of the original concrete frame allows for a new glazed entrance area, providing views from the front door to a courtyard beyond. From the entrance, the building is split into an open plan kitchen-diner-living area, and a separate formal lounge, both facing the garden, and four double bedrooms to the rear.
Finally, the building is re-clad in timber and zinc, to provide a contemporary feel, whilst respecting the agricultural heritage of the barn.
Together with the existing permitted development ‘fallback position’, Bloomfields demonstrated that the proposed conversion and alterations would meet both national and local planning policy and provide an enhancement to the character of the surrounding area. We are pleased that planning permission was subsequently granted and that we have been able to deliver another successful result for the site.
