Despite often being complicated and requiring extensive involvement (which also includes from specialist consultants) it can often be possible to amend schemes that have approval by varying conditions.  This should not be overlooked as a process which can avoid the need for additional third party reports for validation, can save on application fees and is often a good way to vary a scheme after construction costs and tenders are being worked out.  Such was the case for a recent packing facility in Kent which Bloomfields obtained permission for in a timely fashion, allowing their client to amend their scheme efficiently.
