Prior approval was granted by the Local Planning Authority for the conversion of a barn to a dwelling, along with a small curtilage area in 2016. Planning applications were subsequently submitted for an extension to the barn and curtilage area in 2021 and 2022 respectively. These applications were refused due to the perceived impact on the original barn building and countryside.
A further application was submitted for an alternative extension and new driveway to serve the dwelling, taking into account the previous reasons for refusal. This application was still refused by the Local Planning Authority.
Following this refusal to grant planning permission, Bloomfields lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate, presenting a robust case that the proposed extension would be subordinate and appropriate to the scale and form of the original barn building, and that the proposed driveway and garden land would be in keeping with the rural area, respecting the character of the countryside.
The Planning Inspector concurred with the points presented and allowed the appeal, granting planning permission for the development.
