Planning permission was granted at planning committee for 5.6ha of polytunnels to support soft fruit plant propagation in the borough of Maidstone. The polytunnels are allowed to be covered all year round to provide crop protection for the young plants to improve their future cropping abilities, which is extremely beneficial to the grower. Alongside the polytunnels, additional infrastructure was approved to support the propagation business in the form of concrete access roadways, pads to support planting and a drainage attenuation basin to ensure surface run off can be dealt with. All of this infrastructure was allowed, despite part of the site being in flood zones 2 and 3.
